Unexpected Beginnings
The story of CamelBak began with Michael Eidson, a bike enthusiast competing in the "Hotter'N Hell 100" in Wichita Falls, Texas. Faced with the challenge of staying hydrated during the grueling 100-mile race, Eidson improvised a solution by filling an IV bag with water, slipping it into a tube sock, and placing it in the back of his bike jersey. The tube, draped over his shoulder and secured with a clothespin, marked the birth of hands-free hydration and, consequently, the creation of CamelBak.
Expansion and Growth
Jeff Wemmer, a competitive cyclist who was impressed by CamelBak, began selling the packs at races. In 1993, he embarked on a road trip across the U.S. to promote the fledgling company during tough times, visiting bike shops from Florida to California. Each order he faxed back to the factory gave CamelBak another day of life, contributing to its survival and growth.

From its humble beginnings with an IV bag and a tube sock, CamelBak has become a household name in hydration solutions. The company revolutionized the hydration category and is now the world’s leading maker of hydration solutions.
